Airtricity U19 Lge: UCD 0, Bohs 1 E-mail

10/12/2011 (Sat) - Airtricity Under-19 League, Elite Division
UCD 0, Bohemians 1 (Seery 38)
Quick to start, Bohs penned the Students in early on. Yet it was UCD who had the ball in the net in the 7th minute... but thankfully the linesman's flag ruled the close-in finish void, much to the disgust of the university side's coach, Martin Russell.
Bohs were a bit more wary of their opponents after that scare, but continued to edge the battle.
Jack Watson was well watched, but he still managed a couple of strikes, and it was after one of his efforts was turned away that Bohs forced what proved to be a fatal corner on the right at the water-tower end.
Correy Davidson was a constant thorn in UCD's right flank, and it was fitting that he provided the assist for the all-important goal in the 38th minute, his left-footed delivery from that corner finding the head of Paddy Seery at the near post.
It was a close run thing at times, UCD creating a fair few half chances, but this Bohs side has a will to win, and their confidence grows.
The team also works extremely hard. This was only Dan Higgins' second start but he gave everything down the right wing and he also assisted Watson up front on occasion.
UCD really pressed during the final 15 minutes, their No. 9 twice going close but he wasn't allowed a firm enough touch on the crosses that came his way.
Keeper Greg Murray and his defence -- full backs Michael Barker and Philip McCabe (Luke Byrne later on when he dropped back to left full), Seery outstanding in the centre with Ryan Thorpe - were not for turning.

Watson almost finished the game as a contest late on when he wriggled through at inside-left, but the home keeper made a really good stop with his feet. Dan Byrne capped another fine non-stop display when he cleared more or less off the line in the 90th minute after Murray looked to have been impeded by the UCD captain. Conor O'Brien put in an impressive 90+ minutes despite a knock or two, but then so did all the Bohs' lads, including subs Donal Coughlan and Michael Scott.
Another impressive performance from the lads.

The league now takes a break until week-ending 15th January 2012, when Waterford United are our visitors.

Bohemians - Greg Murray; Michael Barker, Paddy Seery (capt), Ryan Thorpe, Philip McCabe (52 Donal Coughlan); Dan Higgins (76 Michael Scott), Conor O'Brien, Daniel Byrne, Luke Byrne, Correy Davidson; Jack Watson.
