14/1/2012 (Sat) - Airtricity Under-19 League, Elite Division Bohemians 3 (O'Brien 34, Mahon 41, Watson 78), Waterford United 1 The young Gypsies continued their strong run of form by completing a double over Waterford United at Dalymount Park. After last week's excellent 1-1 draw away to league leaders Cork City (Phil McCabe coming up with a brilliant equaliser), Bohs were keen to clip the heels of second-placed Waterford and they were gifted a boost when the visitors lost one of their centre backs to a straight red card in the 12th minute for a last-man foul on Dan Mahon. Mahon proved a real handful from first minute to last and he went close in the 25th minute when he was on the end of a Correy Davidson cross from the left but his shot just slipped by the near post, and he went close again three minutes later. It was by no means one-way traffic though, the Blues producing some menacing and pacy attacks. Home keeper Greg Murray had to be on his toes and in the 30th minute made a decent save at the expense of a corner. In the 34th minute Bohs made the breakthrough they'd pressed for, Conor O'Brien crisply firing his 3rd league goal. Mahon added a second (his 6th in 8 starts) with an equally sweet shot after a corner. 2-0 down at half-time and a man short, Waterford started the second period with a spring in their step and went close three times in the opening four minutes, their third effort going over off the bar. Michael Scott almost steadied the home ship in the 52nd minute, but his goal-bound shot deflected wide off a post after the keeper got a touch. Try as they might, Bohs could not wrest back the initiative from their lively opponents. It got a bit more nervy for the home team when Waterford got a goal back (62 minutes), Murray with no chance of stopping a powerful low shot from inside left. The Suirsiders continued to threaten, Murray with a calming stop after a shot deflected through to him. The Gypsies visibly steadied and then out of almost nothing Jack Watson put them back in the ascendancy with a cool turn, run and finish, surprisingly this was his first goal in the Under-19 league. Waterford refused to lie down and Murray made another good save ten minutes from time. Mahon, Watson and Scott all went close before the final whistle signalled Bohs' fifth win in six games. Bohemians - Greg Murray; Michael Barker, Paddy Seery, Ryan Thorpe, Philip McCabe; Michael Scott (83 Lee Lismore), Dan Byrne, Luke Byrne, Correy Davidson (60 Jack Watson); Conor O'Brien; Dan Mahon.
