ason began his League of Ireland career when he joined Bray Wanderers in the summer of 1998 from St Colmcille's. He went on to make 128 League appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 49 times, before signing for Shelbourne early in 2003. He won the League title with the Tolka Park club in 2003, topped the League’s scoring chart (21 goals), and was named PFAI Player of the Year. The tall, powerfully-built striker repeated himself in 2004 with another title win, retained the PFAI award, and was top scorer again (25 League goals from 33 appearances). He went one step further that 2004 season by making his Ireland début in April as a late sub v. Poland. In 2005, Jason helped Shels reach the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, topping the League’s scoring list again (22 goals). He picked up his second Ireland cap in another friendly at Lansdowne Road in May 2006 v. Chile. That 2006 season he won his third League championship with Shels, and was the League’s top scorer for a record fourth time in a row (15 goals from 26 games). Jason then joined Cardiff City where he made the perfect début by scoring an 88th minute winner away to Wolves on 20 January 2007, after he was sprung from the bench. That would prove to be his only goal for the Bluebirds as he was given too few outings, while the start of the 2007/2008 season saw him laid up with a serious hamstring injury. Midway through his recuperation, Jason showed he’d lost none of his sharpness by snapping up the chance to link up again with manager Pat Fenlon, this time to become a Gypsy. He’s recovering well, impatient to add to his tally of 132 League of Ireland goals. |
