Mark Quigley came off the bench to score a precious late winner for Bohemians against Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds. Quigley struck with just five minutes left, as the league champions secured a late win for the second successive game. Jason Byrne had edged Bohs ahead on 33 minutes before Matthew Blinkhorn responded for Rovers just before the hour mark. But Quigley latched onto Aaron Greene's cross to shoot past Richard Brush and seal the win. Ruaidhri Higgins dropped to the bench for Bohs, despite scoring the winner against Drogheda last time out. It was one of three changes for Pat Fenlon, with Greene and Paddy Madden also losing out, and former Rovers boys Raffaele Cretaro and Anto Murphy earning call-ups along with Glenn Cronin. The home side went unchanged from their midweek draw with Galway, which meant no place for top-scorer Padraig Amond or new signing John Russell. It was the home side that started brightest, with wingers Eoin Doyle and Gary McCabe linking up on four minutes. Doyle crossed from the right, but Jason McGuinness blocked McCabe's shot in front of goal. Bohs threatened on ten minutes, when Killian Brennan's free-kick was met by McGuinness, but Gavin Peers was well positioned to clear. Byrne's first significant involvement came on 28 minutes, when he raced onto Murphy's pass over the top, but his shot flashed across goal and wide. But there was to be no mistake with his next chance, as his out-stretched leg directed Paul Keegan's cross past Brush and into the net. Rovers were a rejuvenated side in the second period, and dominated the opening 15 minutes of the half. They deservedly equalised on 58 minutes, when Conor O'Grady's pressure earned the home side a corner, and Joseph Ndo swung it in for an unmarked Blinkhorn to head home. Rovers could have gone in front just two minutes later, when O'Grady fed McCabe in the area. The former Bray winger did well to make space, but saw his shot bounce off the crossbar. Bohs reacted by introducing Mark Quigley and Aaron Greene, but Rovers went close again when Peers headed goalwards and Murphy had to clear off the line. But the substitutes combined to seal the win with five minutes left, as Greene broke down the left before crossing for Quigley to tap home.
