Dunboyne 3 Bohemians Under-12s 4 E-mail

@bfcdublin Our Under-12s were away to Dunboyne in the league on Saturday in what turned out to be a tough test against a very big and pacey counter-attacking team.

It was Bohemians who started off this game very well and came out of the traps fastest and on any other day, Andrew Mullholland and David Lyons would not have placed their shots just wide of either post and it would have been 2-0 to Bohs after just five minutes.

As it turned out, it was Andrew Mullholland who opened the score with an excellent goal to continue his recent run of good form.

The main talking point of the game revolved around two slightly peculiuar decisions. David Lyons having held his run was called offside when still comfortably behind one of the Dunboyne central defenders.

Dunboyne took the subsequent free-kick and went down the other end and had a shot that was comfortably saved by Dillon Foster in goal.

Dunboyne requested a substitution and the referee then decided that, even though Dillon had the ball in his hands, Bohemians should kick the ball off the ground. From the kickout, Dunboyne applied good pressure and scored to draw the game level.

This side is not a hard-luck team though and were back on the attack again quickly enough. Following a lovely passing move, a free-kick was awarded 25 yards out and it was Adam Sheridan who again stepped up to dispatch an excellent long-range free-kick, although Brandon Lawlor did make an attempt to claim it on the line!

Although Dunboyne were awarded a penalty from which they scored, this was the last time the sides were level as James Clarke soon made it 3-2 with a great piece of pressure and then skill.

And it was James who scored again from a wonderful Dillon McCann pass to make it 4-2.

At this stage Bohemians were creating most of the chances, with Sean Smith, Adam Sheridan and Conor Hynes working hard in defence to try to ensure Dunboyne were kept at bay for the remainder of the game, although Dunboyne did snatch a late goal.

In the end our Under-12s deservedly won. Well done to the team for another excellent win and to Dillon McCann for winning the man-of-the-match award due to an excellent passing display in central midfield.
